Senior portraits in Colorado Springs: meet Jemma!

[ Colorado Springs portrait studios ]

This is Jemma. Not only is she tall and beautiful, she's also smart, funny and endearingly self-deprecating. I told her that she has model potential but I think she'd rather be saving the world than stomping down a runway. I had the great pleasure of photographing her and her horse, Lakota, on a very hot and windy day last month. It was so much fun! Jemma, enjoy your senior year -- the world's your oyster!

Janie + Wally's intimate garden wedding in Colorado Springs

[ Colorado Springs wedding photography ]

Wally and Janie are both commercial pilots and don't live here. I'm glad they chose Colorado Springs as the destination for their intimate summer wedding. Only their very nearest and dearest made the trip to witness their vows, for a grand total of 10 people including the bride and groom! I love that. The beautiful Summit House Bed and Breakfast hosted the event in their charming, hidden garden. It was lovely, romantic and very sweet, and I feel honored to have been a small part of it. Congratulations, love birds!

Wedding venue: The Summit House Inn
Bride's gown:
J. Crew
Floral Design:
Rhonda Nichols Flowers
Bride's makeup:
Pamela Johnson at Face/Body FX
Brandi Trapp at Genesis Salon
Cake: Angie at the Red Rolling Pin Bakery, (719) 632-9233

Classical musicians: The Silverwood Ensemble [Leslie Smith, (719) 632-6517]

Janie was stunning in her simple J. Crew gown.

Janie's son, Jake, getting his first glimpse of Mom The Bride.

This is what you call a gorgeous couple!

I was taking a few portraits of Wally, and turned around to find Janie watching with a blissful expression on her face.

The Summit House is the former home of prominent Colorado Springs family the Olsons -- if you're local you'll know them by Olson's Plumbing and Heating. It was built around 1918, and it's gorgeous.

Colorado wedding photojournalism: Carol + Andrew

[ Colorado Springs wedding photojournalists ]

Andrew and Carol met at Adams State College in Alamosa, over pizza at a mutual friend's place. They are so cute together! I'd describe their wedding as a perfect blend of the casual and the elegant, with a killer party (karaoke, anyone?) to boot. I should also mention that, since technically Carol and Andrew have been married since last year, theirs was one of the briefest wedding ceremonies I've ever documented. I think the processional was actually longer than the ceremony itself ;^) Yes, it was definitely all about the party -- and what a fun party it was!

The reality of a crazy wedding day -- don't forget to eat, people!

I'm glad the tradition of a penny in the shoe for good luck still perserveres. Traditions like these are a big part of the fun.

The kiss! Andrew's brother (in the background) officiated the ceremony.

Not many men could carry off a white tuxedo jacket, but Andrew looks downright elegant.

Andrew's grandparents. They've been married for umpteen years, and you can see how happy they still are together. I just had to get a portrait of them!

Katie's senior portraits in Colorado Springs

[ Senior portrait photography in Colorado Springs ]

Behold beautiful Kate, who told me she wanted senior portraits that looked like an Urban Outfitters catalog shoot. She also told me that she loves nature, so we went to Red Rock Canyon and schlepped around for a bit, taking pictures here and there. She turned out to be an awesome little model! And look at those amazing blue eyes! I think she'd fit right into the latest Urban Outfitters catalog, don't you?

Wedding at the Cliff House: Katie + Chad

[ Cliff House wedding pictures ]

From Seattle by way of Chicago, Katie, Chad and all their loved ones traveled from far and wide to congregate in Manitou Springs for this very special event. Despite the scorching Fourth of July weekend weather, it was a fabulous time! Chad and Kate's ceremony was incredibly personal and sweet (officiated by their good friend Jerusha), and the party was bumpin' all night long. Katie is truly one of the most camera shy brides I've ever had -- she was a real trooper putting up with me! Thank you Katie, I hope these pictures made it worth the agony! :o)

Wedding ceremony and reception venue: The Cliff House
Event planning: Nada Gutierrez at RSVP Weddings
Decor and floral design: Nada Gutierrez at RSVP Weddings
Bride's hair and makeup: Niki at the Beehive Salon
Deejay services: AJ at Celebrity DJ
Wedding cake: The Cliff House

Chad and Katie made sure to schedule time after their ceremony for fun wedding portraits around Manitou Springs, especially the old-fashioned arcade.

These two are so sweet together.

I think the tourists and the Manitou arcade regulars had fun watching Chad and Katie strolling around and posing for their portraits. It was fun for us too!

Katie's niece Hallie performed a song for them during dinner. Adorable!

Reacting to best man Nitin's hilarious toast. He had us all in stitches.

Can you guess what Journey song they're jamming to?
