Deb loves Otton

[ Tucson wedding photographer ]
I just had the occasion to delve deep into my archives for an image, and came across Deb and Otton's wedding from September of 2004. I thought it would be nice to share some of their pictures here. These were taken on film.

Otton and Deb's wedding and reception took place at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Tucson, Arizona on a perfectly balmy day. Deb happens to be a friend of mine, so I remember being very tickled when they asked me to shoot their wedding. I had never met Otton but I quickly learned what a nice person he is. They've now been going strong for nearly five years, and they are just as happy now as they look in these pictures. Deb was a gorgeous, gorgeous bride! She had been a bridesmaid something like 17 times (I kid you not), so, on the cusp of 40, when it finally came time to plan her own wedding she went for it!

I remember what a fun day it was for all of us. Otton's enormous Cuban family really knows how to party! Debbie had EIGHT bridesmaids -- hey, you know what they say about paybacks!

Shortly after their wedding Deb and Otton relocated to Colorado, but lately they've been missing the warmth of Tucson so they moved back in December. Miss you both! It's so fun to look at your wedding photos and reminisce.

Debbie had an absolutely radiant smile on her face all day long. Every single picture.

I loved her bouquet, I thought it was so unique. Warning: unless you are a six foot tall glamazon like Debbie, you will not be able to carry this off!

Nice bling Deb!

Catching her father's eye as she arrives for a few pre-ceremony portraits.

The ceremony was full of laughter.

I love this moment -- Otton's mom congratulating him as he walks down the aisle with his new wife.

Beautiful Debbie! She used to model in New York, can you tell?

I didn't have as much time as I would have liked with the newlyweds for portraits after the ceremony. Just long enough to grab a few quick, romantic moments at dusk.

Everyone's favorite image from the day.

Deb and Otton both work in large resort hotels like the Hilton El Conquistador, so Deb was very hands on in planning the details, such as the floral arrangements and lighting. All I can say is wow! The ballroom looked spectacular.

Here's my BFF Jenn on the left with her sister Paula, who happens to be Deb's BFF. Somehow Paula got out of bridesmaid duty. Lucky her!

It was a crazy party. This guy must be related to Otton!

Heather, Luke and Max

I took these portraits while in Phoenix last month. It's just taken me a while to get around to blogging them! This is Heather and her sons Lucas and Max, aged eight and six. (And their dog, Nelly.) These two boys are so full of energy. They just barely let me take about four seated, formally posed shots, and then they were off! You see the results of the posed shots above, and the crazy energy below. At one point they were standing on a picnic table yelling COWABUNGA! They were so cute!

Thanks guys, I had fun taking these. Can't wait 'til next time!

Here they are yelling "Cowabunga!"

A totally unscripted moment. They were just checking out the ducks.

Aalia's baby book

You may remember Aalia from the portraits I did of her in December, when she was just 11 days old. Her parents, Aaron and Souheila, wanted a special keepsake of Aalia's infancy as well as some special gifts for the grandmothers, so they ordered a custom 8x8" linen album and two handmade trifold folios featuring their favorite images from the portrait sitting. The album is sage green and the folios are light plum and plum brocade, both with ivory ribbons. They're gorgeous! I hope these photos do them justice! (Click on the images to see them larger.)

Gretchen & John

I finally got to meet Gretchen and John, who hired me long distance months and months ago for their upcoming June wedding, and they are so much fun! We took these engagement portraits a couple of weekends ago. Since their reception is going to be at the Garden of the Gods Club, we decided it would be appropos to do some of the portraits at the Garden of the Gods. For the first time in my life I did the tourist thing and took pictures of the actual sign -- I felt like a dork but I'm so happy with how they turned out.

Can't wait for the wedding, guys!
