Mitch's senior portraits

This is my cousin Mitch! Well, he's my cousin a few times removed. Let me see if I can get this straight... Mitch's dad's mom is my mom's cousin I think. So that makes Mitch my cousin five times removed or something like that. Right? Anyway, he's a cool kid! Mitch is a senior at Pine Creek up in Gleneagle. He's really into skateboarding (as you can see from these pictures) and is a generally easygoing guy, just like his dad. The last time I saw Mitch he was only about 11 or 12 years old, so it was fun to catch up! We had so much fun taking these. I think we captured his spirit pretty well.

I believe Mitch has more shoes than I do (and that's saying a lot). I think using selective color works well for this image.

How cool is this?!? Mitch can launch himself into a back flip off a tree! He's the only person I've ever met who can pull off this stunt. Not only is my family photogenic, they're talented too!

A baby for Liz and Dan!

A couple of weekends ago I had the great pleasure of doing maternity portraits for some of my favorite clients, Elizabeth and Dan. I shot Liz's senior portraits several years ago (and I still remember that day fondly because she wore fairy wings!), and I shot their wedding in the fall of 2006. Now I'm so happy that I can continue to document their story and their growing family. In case the pink paint in the nursery isn't a dead giveaway, I'll give you a little hint: it's a girl! She's due in October. I can hardly wait to meet their little sweetie! Rest assured her pretty face will be here on my blog soon!

Alex's senior portraits

This is Alex, a senior at Sand Creek High School. I think he's a great kid -- he's involved in everything from Junior ROTC to band, and he's got a really nice family. His mom Brenda, little sister Caitlin and girlfriend Ashley all came along for the shoot, and we had a blast! It turns out Alex has a great sense of style and was very relaxed in front of the lens. We took a few of these on the same overpass/walkway as Michael's senior portraits (see previous post), but I didn't want to repeat myself so I had Alex pose sitting on the pavement. He looked so cool! At the end of our shoot, Alex changed into his cowboy duds and boy did he look awesome!

Michael's senior portraits

Here's a cool kid that's a senior at my alma mater, Doherty. Michael's mom used to work with my mom several years ago; when it came time for Mike's senior portraits Rosalie remembered that I'm a photographer, so she looked me up. I hadn't seen her in a number of years and she's just the same! What a nice person, and Mike grew up to look just like his mom. We had a lot of fun taking these portraits. Most of them were taken in and around Monument Valley Park, but a couple of weeks ago I had spied this cool graffiti wall south of downtown so I convinced Mike to let me take a few snaps of him there too. Wow, does it ever look cool! Well it doesn't hurt to have a cool kid for your subject!

Cate loves Scott!

When Cate and Scott called me from their home in Brooklyn, NY to ask about wedding photography, I just knew that they were going to be a cool couple to work with. Hiring a photographer without benefit of meeting her in person requires a leap of faith, but we hit it off so well over the phone that we knew right away it was going to be a great fit! I didn't actually get to meet Scott and Cate until the day before their wedding and yet it felt just like old friends. What a nice couple, and what wonderful, interesting families they both have! Their wedding and reception last month was a relaxed affair at the Craftwood Inn in Manitou Springs. The ceremony was unique in that they solemnized it themselves (no officiant, just their siblings standing up for them). Many of their friends and family traveled all the way from the east coast and points beyond, so I'm happy that we had such a sunny Colorado day to celebrate this happy union.

As she descended the stairs and rounded the corner, Cate was greeted by her many awestruck admirers!

When I took Cate outside for a few pre-ceremony portraits, her beloved 94 year-old Grandma Gigi arrived. This was Cate's emotional reaction upon spying her.

The flowergirls, Courtney and Ashley, do a little last-minute recon before heading down the aisle.

Married 30 seconds!

I couldn't imagine Cate and Scott striking some uberdramatic high fashion poses for their portraits, so I kept it simple and classic.

Cute couple alert!

I absolutely loved Cate's gown. It reminded me of something John Singer Sargent might have painted. Gorgeous!

Their simple, elegant cake was from Boonzaaijer's Dutch Bakery.

I always love these sorts of displays because I wonder if someday a photo I've taken will end up on a table just like this, at some wedding far in the future.

Cate's dad Garritt delivered a toast that had everyone in stitches.

This lady was cracking up because she had just discovered that the outfit she'd bought to wear at the wedding still had the security tag attached!
