Marcos & Bethany

Marcos and Bethany tied the knot last month at 9,600 feet above sea level, at the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp on the back side of Pikes Peak. What a beautiful place! I've camped at the Crags, which is just a bit farther up the mountain, but I'd never actually been to the Mennonite Camp. This is a place that's very familiar to anyone who grew up Mennonite in the Colorado Springs area, and Marcos and Beth really wanted to celebrate their marriage there. I get a little altitude sickness when I get above 10,000 feet, so this was just about my limit! It did rain for most of the afternoon so the ceremony got moved indoors at the last minute, but eventually it cleared up enough for us to take some fun portraits outside in all the natural beauty.

Gotta love this bride -- her dress was from J. Crew, and she opted for $9.50 flip flops from Old Navy but went barefoot for most of the day.

Bethany's maid of honor Sharon got a little emotional after the ceremony.

It took a little coaxing to get Bethany to agree to get into the canoe...

Catherine's senior portraits

Catherine has just commenced her senior year at Pine Creek High School. As you can see from the pictures, she's absolutely gorgeous! Lucky her -- not only is she tall, she has piercing blue eyes and glorious strawberry blonde hair. We had such a great time shooting her seniors today. We shot in four or five different locations, including a couple of spots I've never used before. The results are spectacular! Here are a few faves.

Home for sale...

Okay, I know this is primarily a photo blog, but there's no reason I can't blog about other stuff too. My friend Judy has put her ranch on the market. By ranch, I don't mean 3-bed/1-bath 1950's rancher, I mean she actually has a RANCH that's for sale. So for those of you out there that have always dreamed of living on a ranch in Colorado, here's your chance! It's not really a working ranch, it's a nice house on 40 acres (some of which are beautifully wooded). There are a couple of barns, loafing stalls, a corral, a chicken house, a couple of giant greenhouses, a large garage, lots of beautiful open space, a spring-fed pond and a million dollar view. It also goes without saying that it's very peaceful and quiet in Judy's neck of the woods. Of course it's zoned for horses or any other kind of critter you might want to keep, though Judy doesn't keep any animals on the ranch these days. As far as the house itself goes, as you can see it's built in a log cabin style. It is not a McMansion. There's a large open plan kitchen/dining/living room, three bedrooms downstairs and a master suite upstairs as well as an office. There is also a huge unfinished basement.

It's a great lifestyle out there in Black Forest, so if you're interested drop me a line and I'll hook ya up.

Emily's senior portraits

Emily has just started her senior year at Air Academy High School. We had so much fun taking her senior portraits last week! No matter how goofy my request, she was happy to oblige -- jumping, running, twirling... you name it, even though it was hot and kind of humid out, Emily was such a good sport. She's really adorable and I think her portraits came out great!

Emily's brother Drew came along for a few quick snaps at the request of their mother.

A Tale of Four Sisters

My client Tracey asked me to capture some fun portraits of her and her three sisters -- Megan, Whitney and Molly -- before they all scattered to the four winds for college, career and marriage. We took a little walk through Monument Valley Park (one of my favorite places) and tried out a few different poses. Just a few days later, Whitney took off for the east coast and Molly went to college. I'm glad I was able to capture a little slice of their summer.
